Jesus simply says, "Follow me."
(Matthew 4:19)
Those who choose to answer that challenge are called disciples or followers of Jesus. It is a call to be set apart, challenged and taught so that we can see and understand the mission of Jesus and play our part in his great work of transforming our world into the kingdom of God. Ultimately, being a disciple is more than simply learning a few simple truths or accepting a body of religious teaching. It is a lifestyle in which we learn. grow, and practice the way of Christ to such an extent that others are able to see Christ dwelling in us.
Journey in Faith offers to anyone who seeks to follow the way of Christ the tools that are necessary to discover, encounter, and respond to the call of Jesus at every stage of our personal growth and development.

Those who first followed Jesus of Nazareth did so only after a direct and personal encounter with him. Those first followers were gradually introduced to him first as a man and eventually came to believe in him as the Son of God, sent to accomplish an important mission in the world. This mission is first and foremost to demonstrate the abiding and immense love that God has for God's creation by offering himself freely for the sake of the world.
This is the focus of Discover in Journey in Faith. If you are a seeker, someone seeking the sacrament of Holy Baptism, or someone seeking to re-engage with your Christian faith, this is the place for you to start. |
Once we respond to the call of Jesus to follow him, we begin a lifelong process of spiritual growth. As this process takes hold we begin to see ourselves to be more and more like Jesus. This is the work of the Holy Spirit and involves our minds, our hearts, and our souls.
The focus of Grow in Journey in Faith is to provide individuals and the community with the resources they need to live godly lives. This is rooted in the study of the Scriptures, learning the history of God's relationship with God's people, especially in the Church, and in a deepening life of prayer. This is the place for anyone who has already begun a spiritual journey regardless of age or stage of spiritual development. |
The more we learn about God and our response to God's call, we realize ever more deeply that our relationship with God is steeped, like all relationships, in mystery. This mystery is not a puzzle to be solved but the realization that the more we know, the more we need to know. Throughout life, we engage in a process of growing into the faith by praying, learning and practicing the teachings of Jesus in the real world. The focus of Share in Journey in Faith to help us make connections with others as we immerse ourselves in what it is to believe, celebrate, live and pray as Christian disciples. Share seeks to put us in touch with the larger community of believers in the parish, the wider community, and the world.

ST. LUKE'S EPISCOPAL CHURCH is part of The Episcopal Diocese of Bethlehem and is located in the heart of historic Lebanon, PA. For over 160 years, St. Luke's has proclaimed the gospel by Word and Sacrament and given witness to the love of God by its involvement in the wider community. St. Luke's is an inclusive community that takes seriously the Baptismal Covenant professed by its members to love God and to love one's neighbor as one's self. Its mission and ministry is founded on these two commandments and summarized by Jesus in his mandate to his own disciples,
"Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another." (John 13:34)
